A GUIDE TO BEING YOUR OWN BOSS: 10 SIMPLE STEPS TO BECOME AN INFLUENCER

Being an influencer is what every millennial wishes to be. The life of an influencer is equally tough and exciting. It gets easier when you take baby steps and you do it right. In a period ruled mainly by social media, influencers are the trend setters and that’s exactly what big businesses are looking for.

Take the opportunity and seize the moment!

But first read and know more how to do it right by carefully following the 10 steps on how to be an influencer mentioned below.

1) Select your niche

To kickstart your career as an influencer, you must find your area of interest especially something that you are passionate about. Because being an influencer is not an easy job, you will have to know your field and know it well. Your area can be cooking, fashion, fitness, or anything under the sun. Whatever it is you choose, you will have to research extensively, and that will only be possible if you love that specific something and are willing to spend your time on it.

2) Optimise your social media profile

Once you have finalized your department, which can be more than one but don’t overburden yourself, you can proceed to select your preferred social media platform. Once you are done choosing, all you have to do is create a new profile or optimize your existing one.

3) Switch to a business account

Once you switch to a business account, you get access to analytics. You can monitor your post-performance, views, follower activity, and many more. Such an option is available on almost every social media platform such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and many more.

4) Create a descriptive bio

The whole idea of having a social media account is to get to know people better. Therefore, bio plays a crucial role. The more you tell people about yourself, the more they would be interested in you. Bio is where you add your name, age, location, and things that interest you so that you can find people who share similar hobbies.

5) Add a beautiful profile picture and Cover photo

Once you are done with the bio, the next thing you need to focus on is putting on a beautiful profile picture and a cover photo that displays your face.  Remember, the whole point of putting a profile picture is to let people recognize you so don’t put on anything complex or difficult to understand.

6) Understand your audience

the importance of choosing a niche plays a crucial part here. Influencers have sway over their audiences and strong connections with them because they don’t provide to everyone, but only those with similar interests in the same niche.

To become an influencer, you must know who you’re targeting and then do it well to build a loyal follower base.  You must understand your audience by analysing and keeping a track of your current follower base to get insights into their demographics and interests.

Most social media platforms have a built-in analytics tool that provides such insights about your current audience. Twitter Analytics, for example, provides insights into your current followers’ interests, genders, locations, and many more.

7) Create and post relevant content

After analyzing what your audience likes and what attracts a larger mass, try and provide them what they want from you. Try and stick to your niche and don’t make it any broader. Some influencers try and keep their personal lives out of what they provide in their profile feeds while some like you juxtapose both personal and social performance in their feed to provide relatability and authenticity to their followers. They feel that adding a bit of personal touch can help them connect better with their respective audience. You can do either but try and stick to your respective niche because your followers are based on similar likes and preferences.

8) Be regular and consistent

Make sure you do not take long enough to post. Posting frequent increases your follower base.  Most social media platforms’ algorithms give preference to accounts that post regularly. Keep a track of which timing is preferred by your followers and on which day or time are they active the most. Choose that particular time to increase your reach.

9) Engage with your audience

You will receive comments when you will post something. Don’t ignore them but try and answer a few questions that your followers post to show your appreciation or validation. The more you connect, the more likeable and preferable you become. Create a friendly impression.

10) Let brands know you are open to collaboration

In an era ruled mainly by the social media platforms, brands are now preferring influencers over pricey advertisements. Take advantage of this opportunity and expose yourself to the world and tell them that you are open for collaborations.
